“A vow of the heart” was, in 1891, Bartolo Longo’s appeal to build, in the shadow of the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, an institution of moral and civic education for the children of prisoners. A “vow of gratitude” from the former pupils of that institution is the making and sharing of this film, which pays fair tribute to a man who lived great ideals of faith and charity.

The film tells the story of Bartolo Longo, a man of great faith and charity, founder of the Shrine of Pompeii and of the social work he established for the children of prisoners. The story is framed by the journey of two children going to visit their mother in prison. A delicate and moving story that also finds, in its music, a reason for hope and serenity.
